The goal of the investment is to create a dynamic remote controlled system for structures on the A24 and A25 motorways in order to improve the necessary level of maintenance for the safeguard of same In particular, control activities will be carried out on bridges, viaducts, flyovers and tunnels.

The A24 and A25 motorways are the main road links through central Italy from Rome to Pescara, an area that is particularly vulnerable, especially in the Apennines, to seismic activity. The works serving the A24 and A25 motorways present significant static weaknesses, owing to the seismic risk in the area, to wear and tear over time, as well as, for some sections, to design and construction that took place in areas not indicated as seismic at the time of planning. Significant investment is therefore needed to improve and secure these structures. The €1 billion investment concerns the control of 170 projects and the implementation of the national 'smart road' prototype, a series of structural works on a total of 36 bridges and viaducts, the adaptation of the Gran Sasso tunnel and making the roads more energy efficient.
