What is the goal of the investment?

The investment has the objective of enhancing the railway transport crossing from the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea improving the speed, frequency and capacity of the cross country railway lines, therefore reducing travel times for passengers and transport of goods.

This investment consists in the development of 87 km of high velocity railway lines available for both passenger transport as well as transport of goods, on lines that connect territories that at the moment are not well connected. The lines that will be enhanced are the cross-country lines that allow for better connection between the eastern and western Italian territories. Specifically, the Rome-Pescara, Orte-Falconara and Taranto-Metaponto-Potenza-Battipaglia lines will be enhanced. 

What are the benefits?

High velocity railway cross-country lines that allow for:
  • 80 minutes Rome-Pescara
  • from 4 to 10 trains per hour on the Rome-Pescara and Rome-Ancona lines
  • a 15 minute decrease between Orte and Falconara
  • a 10 minute decrease between Rome and Perugia
  • a one hour decrease on the Naples-Taranto (via Battipaglia) line
