What is the goal of the investment?

Finance the creation of local research and development champions featuring the following elements:  • innovative training activities in synergy between universities and the private sector aimed at reducing the mismatch between skills acquired during university studies and those required by businesses. • carrying out research activities in collaboration with universities and small and medium-sized enterprises locally • support for start-ups • involvement of the local community in sustainability and innovation issues

Projects will also be funded on the basis of other criteria, such as: • scientific and technical quality and consistency with the local vocation • effective ability to stimulate the innovation by companies, in particular medium-sized and small ones • the ability to generate national or international relationships with key companies and major research centres  • the ability to involve local communities  Centres undertaking projects associated with fossil fuels, or projects within the scope of the EU Emissions Trading System that do not entail greenhouse gas emissions well under the main benchmarks may not be pre-selected. Centres implementing projects concerning landfills or incinerators, or in any way associated with the generation of long-term hazardous waste for the environment, cannot be funded either.
