Ecosystems for innovations in the South in marginalised urban contexts

What is the goal of the investment?

The investment aims to promote social and environmental regeneration in the more degraded urban areas of Southern Italy through the creation of four Innovation Hubs in order to offer highly qualified training, favouring multidisciplinary research and the rise of innovative economic activities.

Total investment cost 350 million
  • Reduce the gaps in standards of living
Additional details

The regeneration of these areas involves extensive collaboration between universities, research centres, companies, public administrations and third-sector organisations, enhancing the role of all the actors involved. This is why the projects will be implemented in close collaboration with the southern regions where the HUBs will be located.  In a first phase, the sites will be selected through a public notice. The projects will then have to be approved within the first quarter of 2022. The identification of these sites will consider, on the one hand, the absence of constraints that could slow down implementation planning, and on the other, the stakeholders’ ability to guide the strategic development of the ecosystem. The second phase instead includes the redevelopment and infrastructural modernisation of the identified sites and will end in the second quarter of 2026.

What are the benefits?

A system of four Innovation Hubs to:
