Additional details

The Projects of Relevant National Interest (PRIN) that are implemented using these funds will be funded for three years and require the collaboration of university research centres and not those of bodies such as CNR. They will be selected by the Ministry of Research and Universities based on the scientific profile of their management and on the originality, practicality and impact of the research project. This will stimulate cutting edge research and reinforce the collaboration between universities and research centres.

The investment aims to fund 5,350 projects by 2026. But they should not concern projects associated with fossil fuel, nor those within the scope of the EU Emissions Trading System, unless they entail emissions well under the main benchmarks. Projects concerning landfills or incinerators, or in any way associated with the generation of long-term hazardous waste for the environment, cannot be funded either. At least 900 more researchers will be hired at some point for the realisation of research projects

What are the benefits?

  • Greater connection between universities and research institutes.
  • More jobs for young researchers
  • Positive effects on productivity of enterprises and the economy
