  • Reduce the gaps in standards of living
Additional details

.The Italian sewage and purification network is obsolete and not always available, and is often not in line with European directives, especially in Southern Italy where the EU has initiated infraction procedures against Italy. To speed up the projects of modernization, in 2016 a single commission was nominated but 2.570.000 people still live in areas which do not conform to the norms for the collection and treatment of urban waste water. The investment envisaged by the RPE seeks, through technological innovation to strengthen/create efficient purification systems. Wherever possible, waste water treatment plants will be transformed into "green factories", to allow for energy and sludge recovery, and reuse of purified waste water for irrigation and industrial purposes.

What are the benefits?

  • Sewer and purification plants aligned with the EU directives, so as to avoid new infraction procedures
  • Putting the waste of 2.5 million Italians into compliance
  • Recovery of sludge and energy and the industrial and agricultural reuse of waste water, once purified
  • Seas and rivers that are cleaner, an attractive advantage for the Country
