What is the goal of the investment?

Reduce the high energy consumption in the agri-food sector redeveloping the production facilities and using the roofs of the buildings to install millions of photovoltaic panels, with an installed power equal to at least 375,000 kW in 2026.

Total investment cost 1.5 bn
  • Reduce the gaps in standards of living
  • Youth
Additional details

Italy is among the European Union countries with the highest direct energy consumption in food production (we are in third place after France and Germany).  Energy costs represent more than 20% of variable costs for agricultural businesses, with even higher percentages for some sub-sectors. It is, however, possible to produce renewable and convenient energy utilizing the roofs of existing buildings (for agricultural, animal husbandry or agro-industrial use): incentives are included for the installation of solar energy panels with a minimum installed power of around 0.375 GW. At the same time, a redevelopment of the production facilities will be carried out with the removal of Eternit/asbestos from the roofs and/or the improvement of insulation and ventilation in order to improve the living conditions of the animals being raised.

What are the benefits?

  • Installation of solar panels on the agro-livestock buildings without consuming new soil, and redeveloping the production facilities
  • Removal of the Eternit and asbestos from the roofs
  • Insulation and ventilation of the stalls, with an improvement in animal well-being
