Plan for the replacement of school buildings and energy redevelopment

What is the goal of the investment?

Construct around 195 new school buildings to guarantee that 58 thousand students will attend modern, green, and safe schools, cutting energy consumption in half and lowering the annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Total investment cost 800 million
  • Youth
  • Gender equality
Additional details

According to data provided by the National Register of School Buildings there are cases in which it is not technically and economically feasible to carry out seismic adaptations or energy efficiency interventions in existing schools. Therefore it is necessary to intervene with plans for the construction of new buildings, in particular for those situated in areas of high seismic risk, in order to ensure that teachers and students have the opportunity to attend modern, sustainable, safe and innovative schools. The investment thus calls for the progressive replacement of the obsolete portion of the school building assets, intervening on around 195 school buildings for a total of 410 thousand mq, with a final reduction in energy consumption of at least 50 percent (3.4 Ktep annually). This will allow the reduction of annual greenhouse gas emissions by about 8,400 tCo2.

What are the benefits?

  • Replacement of the part of the stock of school buildings that is obsolete, with the goal of creating modern and sustainable structures;
  • Reduction of consumption and polluting emissions;
  • Enhance the seismic safety of buildings;
  • Development of green areas;
  • Sustainable development of the territory and of services directed at enhancing the community.
