What is the goal of the investment?
These measures aim to strengthen and reinforce regional rail way lines, whether or not they are already connected with the national rail infrastructure network, as well as supporting their connection and integration with the national high speed network, particularly in the regions of Southern Italy. Interventions will be implemented to increase the number of passengers transported, improve the velocity of travel time and the interconnection with urban centres and other infrastructures, adding new trains and increasing the security thanks to more advanced technological systems.
- Reduce the gaps in standards of living
- Gender equality
This investment consists in the enhancement of 680 km of regional lines whose proprietorship has been transferred or will be transferred soon to the Italian Rail Way Network (RFI). For this investment, an additional 1.55 billion euro will need to be financed by the Complementary Plan. The interventions are expected on the following lines: • Piedmont: re-qualification and modernizing of the Torino-Cerese-Canavesana, improving the regularity of traffic flow; • Friuli Venezia Giulia: Fuc Rail Way, infrastructure and technological work on the Udine-Cividale line, improving the regularity of traffic flow; • Umbria: Central Umbria Rail Way (Fcu), infrastructure and technological interventions; • Campania (Eav): Enhancement and modernizing of the Cancello-Benevento line, improving the safety standards of the rail way business; • Puglia: Bari-Bitritto, infrastructure enhancement and compliance with technical/normative norms for the National Rail Way infrastructure. South East Rail Ways (FSE): infrastructure enhancement of the Bari-Taranto line, that will allow for compliance with standard RFI performance targets and specific interoperability techniques; FSE: completion of the Scmt/Ertms apparatus on the network and traffic improvement, capacity optimisation and improvement in security standards; Creation of an inter-modal Hub and enhancement of 20 stations to improve accessibility to the stations and create areas of exchange points for trains-buses, rail way-private vehicles and rail way-bikes. • Calabria: Rosarno-S. Linea Ferdinando, enhancement of the equipment of the Rosarno and San Ferdinando lines for the Gioia Tauro connection.
