The investment aims at enhancing the rail way network at different points of Southern Italy, connecting ports and airports, increasing competition and connecting with the inter-modal logistics system and improve the rail way in different areas.

If the logistics system of the Country appears not to be connected with proper rail way infrastructures, travel by highway will continue to be the most convenient method of transport, especially for the transport of goods. Therefore, the investment envisages a series of interventions that are able to connect ports and airports with an enhancement of the Country's rail way network, especially in Southern Italy. In this particular case, therefore, the contracts for this investment would include, the airport connection for Olbia, the port connection for Augusta, the doubling of the line Decimomannu-Villamassargia, the line Bari Lamasinata, the enhancement of the connection Potenza-Foggia, the inter-modal connection of Brindisi and the electrification of the Barletta-Canosa line.
