Additional details

The number of cyclists in Italy has been increasing constantly since 2013.  In 2018 there was an initial boom (over 40% of new cyclists); in 2020, due to the Covid-19 emergency, we saw an additional +20% of two wheeled transport. Incentivising this method of transportation helps not only to improve mobility but also helps to develop an economic spin-off that is worth 7.6 billion euros per year. The national Plan regarding the cycling paths expects to develop new networks in 40 cities, in particular those that house the main universities in the Country and connecting them with a railway or metropolitan transport system. The national paths will also include projects in the rural areas.
