Additional details

A known problem of the ports in Italy is the connection of the port with the destination or origin areas of the goods, especially by rail. The decreased connectivity creates difficulties in the efficient management of goods, making Italian ports less competitive and increasing congestion and pollution in urban centres due to the inflationary alternative of road transport.

What are the benefits?

Enhancing rail and road links to ports for:
  • Facilitating the transport of goods to and from the areas of origin and destination
  • Reducing pollution and congestion in urban areas
  • Improving the competitiveness of Italian ports
